Ok, this is fun, it’s Fall but still warm in NY which has made for some really exhilarating transitional outfits. Boots and shorts, open toed shoes with pants, skirts with sweaters, and my personal favorite…jackets worn as tops.
So here are my thoughts on getting dressed if you want to stay just a bit off from the trends and build a wardrobe that has more personality while also being pretty multi-purpose.
Boots & non-pants
There is something to be said about the proportion possibilities when the temp outside is kinda just right where you can still show some skin but need layers to offset cooler mornings and evenings. A super playful way to enjoy this combo is to start bringing in some of your Fall pieces a bit early, I was really happy to see boots in shapes like these, and some perfect classic Prada’s, wow wow and these make their way into outfits with a feminine trouser short, denim short, or just generally any bottom that might allow for a sliver of bare leg to still see some sun. Just a few more, the possibilities are endless here just choose the shape that lends itself best to your closet!
Would suggest adding some structure to all this playfulness with a tailored jacket like this or this gorgeous beauty, adding layers that compliment like this one over a skirt or a more oversized denim over a walking pant are fantastic formulas to get this done right. Use this as a great opportunity to turn it up on the accessories that throw out just a bit more intrigue, here are a few faves that would be cute n fun! (wow, Prada again)
And including these perfect Jil Sander boots for one extra lucky outfitter/collector
Jackets worn as tops and the denim that compliments them (more proportion play!)
Ok, so this is a style technique that I will always enjoy. It’s equal parts timeless and a little off in the best way. Wearing your best jacket layers as tops was my personal solve to never having enough tops in my closet that I felt excited about.
Button up from the top half way down for a more feminine silhouette or zipper up to the top and turn that jacket into a top and live life on the wild side with maybe nothing underneath? Commit to the top!
It could be a cropped number like this, this, or maybe this? Paired back to these incredible dark wash wide leg denim can be found here, and right here. Suede is a great trend that honestly never went out of style if you ask me. But since it’s back in a big way why not enjoy and push the boundaries a bit. Very very into these unexpected pair with a pop of color? Or if blue is more for you. Also love this one! With these? Also a classic is fine too. Love love love.
Or this beauty with these?! Silk pants with a sturdy jacket…pure….outfitting…romance. These are also perfect, or this is a great option too.
Then some finishing shoe options from The Row, Jil Sander, Prada, and Miu Miu.
Definitely option a few of these very cool vintage sunglasses. Maybe add one of these amazing bags as well, in a perfect color or shade! This one reminds me of my Mama, this one too.
This Malene Birger vest isn’t technically a jacket, but a vest as a top also is worth a try, especially in an unexpected shape (just off from the sweater vest trend but close enough to still join the party!) Add this lil cutie too.
And these deserve their own space.
I love sharing my favorite sourced finds- share and shop more sustainably. Always secondhand :)
Love! So here for jackets as tops. I too way prefer my blazer/jacket collection over “real” tops. This is more fun 😉
